“On the Wall: Healing and Deliverance Through Strategic Prayer”

FROM THE WALL

Every city God loves; He guards. And He does not guard it with walls alone; He guards it with watchmen.

Wise woman, this month The Brief climbs the wall. July took us beneath the surface, down among the roots. August takes us up to the watchtower; because the same God who uproots what is hidden also posts guards over what He has restored. Deliverance clears the ground. Healing rebuilds the walls. But strategic prayer is how the ground stays cleared, and the walls stay standing.  Healing and prayer should happen simultaneously.

This is not a month for casual prayer. This is a month for assigned prayer; watchman prayer. Prayer with a post, a gate, an hour, and a word from the Lord.

“I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night.” — Isaiah 62:6

We are moving into the last quarter shift of the year. What we plant in this season carries forward into the final fiscal year plans, so the time to move is now.

Watchmen on the wall see the writing before the world reads it. The assignment is clear: get in position and shift the atmosphere in the direction of the Kingdom Agenda. We do not sit back, and watch events unfold. We discern the times and the seasons and respond with purpose.

Watchmen do not draw their intelligence from social media.  We are not artificial; we are original. Social media validates what the Kingdom has already spoken; it confirms the word; it does not generate it. Our source of intelligence flows from the throne room, and everything we observe in the natural serves as confirmation of what God already released in the spirit.

Understand the distinction in how God communicates. Some things He speaks come as a warning - fixed events on the prophetic calendar that will transpire as written, and our role is to prepare accordingly. Other things come as a direct assignment - a call to engage, subvert the enemy's plot, and reverse the anticipated outcome before it lands. Both require a watchman to stay at their post, eyes open and ears trained on Heaven's frequency.

The wall needs watchers who know the difference between a warning and a warfare assignment and who carry the discernment to respond correctly to each.

Your post is waiting. Report to the wall.

I. THE WATCHMAN’S ASSIGNMENT

Before we can stand the watch, we have to understand the assignment. In Scripture, a watchman was not a volunteer with good intentions; they were set in place, by name, over a specific portion of the wall.

Three things marked the biblical watchman. They were positioned: stationed above the city, where they could see what those at street level could not. They were persistent: day and night, never holding their peace, because the enemy does not keep business hours. And they were accountable:  Ezekiel 33 makes it sober and plain: the watchman who sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet answers for the blood of the city.

“So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.” — Ezekiel 33:7

Hear the order of that verse, intercessor: hear first, then warn. The watchman’s authority does not come from your opinion of the danger. It comes from the word from His mouth.

Today, modern watchmen are mothers and fathers over households, intercessors over churches and ministries, and wise men and women over bloodlines. They are leaders on jobs, over regions, organizations, businesses, and industries too vast to name. Each one carries a specific call to a certain place, posture, and position on the wall.

The world may not know your name, but Heaven sees you, and hell is afraid of you. God knows exactly who you are and where you stand. He is El Roi - the God who sees. He knows the ones He can rely on to respond to His priorities and Kingdom needs when the moment demands it.

Your post is waiting. Report to the wall.

II. THE HEALED WATCHMAN

Now a word the wall rarely hears: the watchman needs watching over, too.

Some of the most faithful guards I know are standing over churches, children, marriages, and ministries, while their own gates hang off the hinges. These watchmen can discern a threat against everyone but themselves, and an untended wound on the wall is a dangerous thing: a watchman in pain will eventually see threats that are not there and miss the ones that are.

So before this month asks you to watch, it asks you to be healed. Your healing is not a detour from your assignment. It is your assignment, the first gate you were given to guard.

“For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD.” — Jeremiah 30:17

I learned this the hard way. While I tended everyone else's vineyard, my own lay in waste. I looked up one day and saw my family's needs sitting neglected, and I carried the weight of time I could never recover. We tell ourselves that putting others first guarantees our own needs get covered. As a wife, mother, sibling, and friend, that is a broken order of care.

I was bleeding while leading. Frustration and burnout moved in quietly while I kept pushing through, until my body gave out completely and forced me into a sabbatical to heal. The part that stayed with me longest: the people I placed ahead of my own wellbeing never noticed I was gone. No one reached out while I was sick. They only recognized my absence when I returned.

That moment became a reality check I carry with me to this day. A watchman who neglects their own post cannot hold the wall for anyone else. Tend to your vineyard. Guard your health. Protect your house. The Kingdom needs you whole.

III. THE TOWER — WHERE STRATEGIC PRAYER BEGINS

There is a difference between praying our worries and praying His word. One rehearses the problem. The other executes an assignment.

Habakkuk shows us the posture: “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me.” (Habakkuk 2:1). He did not guess. He did not panic. He climbed, above the noise, above his own analysis, and he watched to see what God would say.

That is the SCIF principle, family: intelligence before intercession. The watchman gathers intelligence before they engage. Ask God what He sees over your family, your church, your city, and then pray that. Or better yet, pay attention to the God interruptions:  a dream, a vision, a revelation of which God draws you deeper into his chamber, His SCIF, to release the secrets of heaven so you can develop a specific strategy to pray. Prayer becomes strategic the moment it stops being sourced in anxiety and starts being sourced in revelation.

I learned every prayer request carries weight, but every prayer request is not my battle; however, every Kingdom call carries my assignment. Stealth warriors move with purpose, we stand watch, listen, and wait on the Lord before stepping into any fight. When He calls, we go. When He releases us, we rest.

As warriors and watchmen, we know how to build a prayer wall and how to pace ourselves doing it. We also know when to hand the watch to our battle buddies so we can recover and come back strong.

IV. THE PRAYER WATCH — STRATEGY IS SPIRITUAL

BUILDING THE WATCH: A War Commander's Blueprint for Intercessory Leadership

I. The Watch Commander's Mandate

Nehemiah did not build the wall alone. He assigned men to stand at specific gates, at specific hours, over specific territories. God calls intercessory leaders to operate with that same precision. A watch without structure is a prayer without direction. A watch commander knows the names, the gates, the hours, and the ammunition; and deploys each one with intentionality.

"I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet." - Jeremiah 6:17 (KJV)

"So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work." - Nehemiah 4:6 (KJV)

II. NAMES - Who Stands on the Wall

Every watch begins with assignment. The commander surveys the unit before the battle begins. Know your intercessors: their gifts, their burdens, their spiritual maturity, and their capacity for sustained warfare. God does not assign randomly. He places the right watchman at the right gate.

A sleepy gatekeeper costs a city. An assigned intercessor, standing in their lane with clarity and consecration, holds ground that the enemy cannot breach.

"And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses." - Nehemiah 4:14 (KJV)

"Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have." - 2 Corinthians 8:11 (KJV)

Assignment Questions for the Commander:
    • Who carries the burden for the mind gate? (Teachers, those with discernment gifts)
    • Who carries the burden for the home gate? (Married intercessors, parents, deliverance ministers)
    • Who stands strongest in the midnight hour?
    • Who has authority over the city gate through proven intercession?

III. GATES - What Each One Covers

Gates in Scripture represent access points - places where authority is either granted or denied. The enemy targets gates because controlling the gate controls the territory. The watch commander assigns intercessors to cover each gate with targeted, scripture-loaded prayer.

"Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD." - Psalm 118:19 (KJV)

"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." - Matthew 16:19 (KJV)

The Bible speaks of 12 gates; they are:

The 12 Gates of Ancient Jerusalem (Nehemiah 3)

• Sheep Gate: Used to bring sheep in for temple sacrifices.

• Fish Gate: Used by local fishermen to bring in fish to sell.

• Old Gate: Part of the older section of the city wall.

• Valley Gate: Led out to the Hinnom and Kidron valleys.

• Dung Gate: Used for carrying trash and waste out of the city.

• Fountain Gate: Located near the Gihon Spring.

• Water Gate: Stood near the open square where people gathered to hear God's word.

• Horse Gate: Used for royal horses near the palace area.

• East Gate: Faced the Mount of Olives and the sunrise.

• Inspection (Miphkad) Gate: Used for military or tribal assembly.

• Corner Gate: Located on the northwest corner of the wall.

• Ephraim Gate: Led into the territory

Simply knowing these does not give us clarity on how a watchman should spiritually man the gates of the city, their homes, or their personal lives. 

I want to guide you to how we should guard our eye, mind, and ear gates as watchmen.  Below is a simple explanation of how we can utilize knowledge to pray strategically.

IV. HOURS - When They Stand

A watch without scheduled hours produces gaps. The enemy moves through gaps. The watch commander builds a prayer schedule that covers the clock, because darkness does not take breaks.

"Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice." - Psalm 55:17 (KJV)

"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." - Mark 1:35 (KJV)

"Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments." - Psalm 119:164 (KJV)

The Eight Prayer Watches

"It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep." - Psalm 127:2 (KJV)

(The watch is not about striving - it is about stewardship of sacred hours.)

V. SCRIPTURES - The Ammunition Each Gate Fires

A watchman without scripture goes to battle unarmed. The Word of God is the weapon. The watch commander trains intercessors to load the right ammunition at the right gate - specific scriptures, spoken with authority, targeting the specific assignment of the enemy at each post.

"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." - Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." - Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)

VI. The Commander's Charge

A watch commander does not only stand; the commander builds, assigns, equips, and sustains. But he or she should not do this from a wounded position. Leaders who read this section carry a double responsibility: stand your own post with excellence and raise others who stand theirs.  The integrity of every watch is to know when the rest and know when you are wounded and need to recover

The wall gets built when every person stands in their place. The city gets covered when every gate gets its watchman. The Kingdom advances when the watch operates with the precision, the authority, and the consecration of soldiers who know whose they are and what they carry.

"Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone." - Ephesians 2:19-20 (KJV)

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might." - Ephesians 6:10 (KJV)

Take your post. Stand your hours. Fire your ammunition. Hold the wall.

For the longest time, waking up between midnight and 4:00 am confused me. I assumed something was physically wrong - maybe insomnia. Then God began meeting me in those quiet hours through dreams, or simply a deep stirring in my spirit calling me to rise and pray. That's when I understood: He was assigning me to a prayer watch.

Over the years, I have carried different prayer burdens throughout the day, interceding for specific needs as they arose. Yet something shifts in those midnight hours. That sacred window carries a particular weight and power - a place where I feel most effective, most spiritually sharp, most alive in intercession.

And it all makes sense. My name literally means "warrior." God did not give me that name by accident. He assigned me to labor in the watch hour that matches exactly who He created me to be.

“Ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, and give him no rest, till he establish and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” — Isaiah 62:6–7

Watchmen do not keep polite hours. They keep watch. And persistence needs structure — order is not the enemy of the anointing; order is what the anointing flows through.

V. THE MORNING COMETH

To the man or woman on the long watch; the one praying over a prodigal, a marriage, a diagnosis, a dream that has been dark longer than they want to admit, Isaiah’s watchman answers you from the wall:

“Watchman, what of the night? The watchman said, The morning cometh.” — Isaiah 21:11–12

The watch that feels longest is the one just before dawn. Do not come down now. Your night has an ending, and it is closer than it has ever been.

My Personal Decree

Today, I decree and declare over your life: you will rise as the master of your watch hour, and you will walk fully in the authority of your assignment. God Himself has placed the charge upon you, and with that charge comes the power to call those things that are not as though they were.

"As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations, before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were." - Romans 4:17 (KJV).  This same authority that God gave Abraham has been given to you.
